Arkansas Veteran Resource Directory and Map

The Arkansas Veteran Resource Directory provides an easy to use tool for locating veteran focused assistance with benefits, claims, employment, health, small business and much more. Assistance providers may be located by county, by assistance provided, and by zipcode proximity. Directory results include addresses, telephone numbers, local maps, links to assistance provider websites.

An interactive Google Map depicting all assistance providers is also available. Users may zoom in/out, drag, and change type of map displayed.

Eye Glasses for Retirees

All retirees, even TRICARE for Life recipients,
may receive one pair of standard issue glasses
each year from the Naval Ophthalmic Support and
Training Activity.

American Legion Offers Nursing Scholarship

Applications are available for the American Legion's $3,000 Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Disease Nursing Scholarship for registered nurses.

The deadline to apply for the nursing scholarship is May 15. Selections will be announced July 1.

DoD Homeowners Assistance Program

The Department of Defense (DoD) today announced details for the temporary expansion of the Homeowners Assistance Program (HAP). Using $555 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), this program is designed to partially reimburse eligible military personnel, surviving spouses, and federal civilian employees whose service to the nation has required them to relocate and sell their primary residence at a loss.

Potential eligible personnel include:

- Active and former service members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard;

Veterans in Distress Can Chat Live Online

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Lifeline launched an online chat service for veterans in emotional distress available at:

www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/Veterans

Veterans are encouraged to chat online anonymously with a counselor during the operating hours of 4:00pm -7:30am EST Daily.

Friends and family members of a veteran in crisis are also welcomed to use Veterans Chat.
